New web tool for climate-savvy holiday travel

Holiday flights make a major contribution to emissions of greenhouse gases. Since 2010, Swedes’ private air travel has grown steadily by 4 per cent a year, and we fly seven times as much as the average world citizen. One example of information in the new digital tool at is how fast Arctic ice will thaw as a result of various travel options.

Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg School of Business, Economics and Law, including researchers in Mistra Urban Futures and Mistra Sustainable Consumption, invented the tool. It is intended as an alarm clock and also a source of inspiration, as well as for use by tourist companies and hotels to calculate the climate costs of their customers and guests.
